    ** Korea'09 Day 4&5 **

    Day 4 (30.12.2009)

    SICK DAY~!!!!

Mummy and I fell to the stomach flu / food poisoning... whichever. whatever. Mei miraculously recovered and was feeling energetic. So Dad and her went to shop at Myeong Dong while mum and i camped in the hotel room. I slept the day away and drank only 2 cups of Milo the entire day (they don't have milo over there. so strictly speaking, it's 2 cups of hot chocolate from Nestle.).

I felt like vomiting the entire day. Even the sips of milo that went in felt wrong. It was as though there was a lot of pressure in my tummy trying to push anything and everything i ate out. The feeling was bad. It was horrible. I squatted by the toilet bowl for about 30 minutes in total. Poor me =(( on top of that, i felt giddy. i felt as though i would faint each time i stood up. Postural hypotension? I doubt so.

I contribute the fainting spells to hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose level) as I only had 2 cups of hot chocolate the entire day. Other signs and symptoms I experienced include weakness, lethargy, and palpitations, which are the S&S of hypoglycaemia! It is funny to note that whenever I feel faintish, the first thought that ran through my mind then was NOT squatting down to prevent myself from collapsing. The first thought was.... the 15 / 15 rule~!!!! LOL~!!! Nursing peeps! If you are reading this... I know you guys are so proud of me! hahahah! To the non-nursing peeps, the 15 / 15 rule means to mix 15g of glucose powder in approx 120ml of water and feeding it to the patient suffering from hypoglcaemia, and to check his blood glucose level 15 minutes later after the administration of the drink. HAHA~!!! Once a nurse, forever a nurse. Indeed.

FYI, mum diarrhoea-ed 6 times and vomited once! It's crazy! #1 Nursing diagnosis: Fluid and electrolyte imbalance.

No pictures for this day as I wasn't feeling well, and cos mei was recovering.

    Day 5 (31.12.2009)

The last day of the year!

We went to Namdaemun in the day as both mum and i were feeling much better. Mei was 100% ok!

    me!
evidence that I was sick the day before: tired eyes and chui face. Yes, I still managed to apply some eye shadow before leaving the hotel! HAHA~ vanity streak. it's like a sin for a female not to put on make-up in Korea!
evidence that the weather was cold: my red nose. secondly, the no-longer-steaming buns. The buns were steaming when the lady took them out from the steamer. But in less than 15 seconds from that act, the steam was all gone~ and the bun skins were cold~ man man man!

salty seafood noodles. once again, no steam!
nice flavour! But I did not finish as my appetite had not recovered 100%. Nothing beats a bowl of hot soup in that weather!

Mummy and Mei, with their hair all bun-ed up!
Crazy! In that weather?!??! Well, you know, the vanity streak!

Dad wanted to throw up half way through the meal... It was then that it dawned upon us that Dad had succumbed to the virus / bug. As such, we cabbed back to the hotel room asap.

Dad slept the day away without eating much. On the other hand, Mei and I went to... where else, Myeong dong, to shop while mum stayed in the hotel room to take care of Dad.

Mei, still in her bun-ned hair. In that weather.

    and we saw something hilarious...

    YEA~!!!! BREAD TALK~!!! IN KOREA~!!!
    a sense of familiarity.
    we avoided it.

    talking about diversification.....
we went back to the hotel after this and slept at about 11pm. That was how we spent the last day of 2oo9. To those of you who wished me happy 2o1o and who were so concerned about my family's health over there, THANK YOU SO MUCH~!!! love you all! so touched to receive all the smses! =D

that's all folks! will blog another day!

    ** School Happenings... **

    Hey guys!

School's into it's second week.. Somehow this sem is gonna be T-O-U-G-H! But I know I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Amen? YEA! Lemme show you guys some things that have happened to me in these two weeks in school~

    my agar plate.
look at the bacteria colonies before i washed my hand.
ok. clarification: my hands AREN'T that dirty normally ok? I purposely made my finger tips dirty by running them along the lab bench and chairs...
conclusion: lab benches and chairs are dirty...

    fishball noodles at arts canteen....
    notice something amiss?
    i'll zoom in for you...

    a worm.... =S

you know... i love lab sessions. i can do nonsense and play and do anything i like as long as i don't break the lab rules.

hahaha! this looks funny on a mannequin. two nasogastric tubes [NGTs - tubes that are inserted from your nostrils (naso) to your stomach (gastric) to deliver food, water and medicines. why patients need them? cannot swallow, swallowing difficulty (reflex got prob), oral problems, oesophagus cancer etc...]
but if i see this on a real patient, i think i will feel so sorry for him/her. get what i mean?

hohoho! i'm so proud of this! my "sutures".
    call me, Surgeon SzeRn.

    me removing the suture lines.
    i'm so pro now!

    me removing the staples.
    i'm so pro now too!

the removed staples (top) and the removed sutures (bottom).

CHC supervising weiling removing her staples.

You know, lab sessions usually rock. But Penguin had to come and spoil the fun. Whatever! Bomb her! Against her! CHC rocks now!

    ** Korea'09 Day 3 **

    Day 3 (29.12.2009)

The view from my hotel room in the evening. Traffic jam.

Me drinking Korean Yakult during breakfast!

We went to CoEx that day.

My lunch! Bibimbap! Octopus! W6,500. Ok, seriously, what's with me and octopuses?
This is the authentic bibimbap where the pot is sizzling hot!

Fancy eating cold noodles in winter? Well, we did just that. Dad ordered cold noodles. Although it looks liks normal bee hoon (lamerz, not bee ***n. LOL!), it doesn't taste like the normal bee hoon! The noodles was super Q and springy! It was also quite hard to bite the noodles cos it is so springy! Seasoned with sesame oil and other ingredients (cannot really tell what they are), the taste was really unique and appetising! Dad, mum and I loved it.

Pity mei did not try cos she was not feeling well... this is the start of the illness~ This explains why there will be minimal photos published here the next few days. Mei was the one who kena-ed first and spread to us. Poor mei missed the chance to have her fave bibimbap~! =(

Anyway fungi and liz, you girls can try the cold noodles in summer! I think it would be super refreshing in the hot weather!

As mei was not in the mood to shop, we took the subway back to our hotel.

Crossing some bridge on the subway.

Brave Mei still managed to pull off a smile for this photo!
My zilian skills are sooooo good!
Someone sms-ed me and told me that my whole family looks alike. I doubted and did a random check with Lamerz. Fungi, Mozzie, Serkun and Peijun unanimously agreed that Mei and I look alike! Really meh? I've been staring at this picture for quite some time and do not really find any striking resemblance here lehx... hMm...

    Random shot.
The vents you see below are heaters!

Ok guys, that's all the photos I have for this day. Didn't do much as Mei was not feeling well...

    Happy birthdays, Serkun & Air-Wen~!!!

    ** Korea'09 Day 2 **

Ok! I'm here to blog once again! I know you guys are dying for MORE! hahahaha... shu! as requested... more photos! =)

    Day 2 (28.12.2009)

The weather was chilly.... Evidence? Take a look at the photo below...

    -10deg!!!!

We travelled to Noryangjin fish market. As it was our first time there...we did not really know what to expect except what we saw from blogs prior to the trip! When we arrived...

there were many many many stalls...

selling live seafood~!!!! this is super cool stuff man!!! =D
click on the photo to enlarge.

ok. you must we wondering why we visited such a place. nope! we had NO intention of shipping live (or frozen) seafood back to this little garden city of ours. we wanted to buy live seafood and eat them on the spot!!!! Eat on the spot? If you are puzzled, continue reading! =)

Dad pointing at the giant whatever prawns. Don't know what breed those prawns are.

Mei, Dad and Mum posing for the camera!

    ME posing for the camera.
if you think the weather's not that cold over there... i'm telling you, IT'S NOT~!!! look at my poor nose! it's red!

anyway, if you can read the sign, it states 1kg of scallops and snails (not escargots) with shells for W10,000 (S$12.50). super cheap right?! fresh scallop lehx!!! but then again, some stalls do not display prices. so we conveniently skipped all those stalls and bought from stalls that displayed their prices! smart move eh? prevent ourselves from getting cheated. it's really funny that they thought we were Japanese. when we did not answer, they'll start asking, "China?" That is usually the last straw for Mei and I and we both will shout a loud "SINGAPORE~!!!!" back to them. Ok. I think this trip make me a little more patriotic. I don't want to be labelled as an AT. ha! sorry arh.. cos i'm scared i'll get beheaded or something if i were to criticise the 'sleeping dragon', so i'll be using some acronyms for erm.... ya. you get the point! ha!

so after making our purchases, we searched high and low for the restaurant to cook the seafood! how do we know about this place? HAHAHAHA~!!! Revelation. Channel 8's Smart 省钱王, hosted by Ah Ben and Quan Yi Feng. We purposely went to this restaurant cos the price was mentioned on TV and we know we wouldn't get cheated. HAHA! Smart, right? Fungi and eliz, if you girls wanna go there, inform me k? Will give you girls directions! =)

    our spread!
    Sashimi: W10,000 (S$12.50)
    Oysters: W5,000 (S$6.25)
    Scallops & Snail thingy: W10,000 (S$12.50)
    Small live octopus: W4,000 (S$5)
    and....

辣汤! to keep us warm in this weather! yummy!!! W15,000.
ok. come to think about it, it's not very worth it as the soup contained only fish bones with minimal meat... oh wells. but the soup is shiok! really.

    Mummy and Daddy!

Me and my sashimi! rhymes! lol.

Mei and her fave scallop. Pardon the act cute face.

Me and my oyster! I love the oysters man! So super cheap and worth it!
Ok. I like how my make up turned up in this photo! lol. eye shadow and blush... for those of you who cannot really tell. heh!

The restaurant charges a cooking fee of W5,000/dish. Live items no need to pay even though they will wash the items for you! Sauce fee W2,000. Rice either W1,000 or W2,000 (comes with kimchi and carrot-chi).

Ok.... erm... i've got a confession to make.... I.... I.... We... We ate a live octopus. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA~!!!!

    Evidence:

    yea! 很难咬.
pardon my act cute voice too. haha! don't puke.
and Mei's scared to eat. haha! although she didn't say so, you know, being her sister for 16years, can tell. HAHA! she waited til the 3 of us ate it before she tried. LOL~

Mum and Mei on the stairs leading to the restaurant...
Mei's taller than Mum. She's standing on a lower step. haha!
Look at the roof! Unspoilt snow!

Then, we went to Lotte Supermart and saw....

    this!!! 辛 Maggie Meeeee~~~~
I love their maggie mee ok?! like seriously do! the noodles are so springy i can fly to the moon! ok. not really. but it's good exercise for my jaws! and they have the dried seaweed and stuff inside... and the seasoning (esp the kimchi flavoured one)... oh my~~~
because of my fetish for 辛Maggie mee, i just had to take this photo!

yea! giant 辛 Maggie Mee balloon-y things!!! so cute~~~
Sorry... ever since i ate 辛 Maggie Mee, i was wrecked! Nothing, no other forms of Maggie Mee, not even the real Maggie Maggie Mee itself tastes anything like 辛 Maggie Mee!

That's all folks! Will try my very best to blog once i can find time!!!!! I have no time! =( In the meantime, take care! This sem's gonna be tough for me! Jiayou!

    ** Korea'09 Day 1 **

    ladies and gentlemen,

If you've not yet known... I'm back from Korea~~~~~ haha. gonna upload the (not too many) photos i took over there! it's gonna be exciting! Fungi and dear lizzie... must read!!! =D

    Day 1 (27.12.2009)

Woke up super early just to go to the airport to check-in....

a priceless photo! it's so rare for my mum to join my mei and i in cam-loving!!!
anyway, i'm wearing specs while mei's wearing contacts! haha! role reversal.

that's my mei. an artistic shot by her sister. we were having breakfast at the airport.

well, SzeRn always remembers to take photos! And it helps so much that her phone has an offline mode so that she can still take photos while the plane's flying! =D
    SzeRn in the plane's toilet.

early lunch on board the plane!
fungi, you could be eating this... it's fish. ask for red wine!

fungi, you can ask for this too! ok, SIA doesn't have SzeRn on board. There is only ONE SzeRn. too priceless already. so you cant really ask for her. What I meant was, you may request for Singapore Sling on board... and hope that the air stewardess knows how to get the proportions right. The Singapore Sling to Seoul was niceeee... but the one I had on my way back sucked big time! =(

Mei and her ice cream! Fungi, you may have a chance to eat it too!! Ok, mei drank Singapore Sling too (and had photos taken). But I'm NOT gonna publish them here cos SIA's law is that they do not serve alcoholic drinks to those below 18 years of age =/

we arrived at Incheon International Airport and were greeted by... SNOW~
It was not a snow storm.. Just slight snow. We were all so excited!!!

However, after retrieving our luggage and all, the snow stopped!!! Poor us.. only saw snow IN the plane. didn't have the chance to experience falling snow... yet.

Mum, Dad, Mei (and I) waiting for the airport bus to our hotel. It's somewhat like our buses in Singapore, just that they ferry people between Incheon airport and hotels in Seoul. Bus fare per trip: W9,000. Guess what? Due to the snow, a traffic accident occurred somewhere and the airport bus we wanted to take was stuck in a traffic jam!!! We waited for the bus for almost 1.5h out in the cold! The bus stop is OUTSIDE the airport building. This photo was taken before we were really cold / at the beginning of the wait. We were still energetic, you see.

During the wait, the ang mohs who were Q-ing behind us were very energetic initially. After a while, they started putting on their sweaters. After a little while longer, they opened up their checked-in luggage and put on more layers of clothing. After that, they really buay tahan and some of them went into the airport building to qu2 nuan3.

Two Korean girls Q-ing in front of us started jumping and jumping cos they were too cold. Many people left the Q. The four of us continued to brave the strong winds and the chill... then, dad started jumping together with the two Korean girls! HAHAHA!!! HILARIOUS~

We went to have Ginseng Chicken after checking in to the hotel. I've a story to tell. My fam and I carried all our luggage down an underpass to our hotel! Are we good or what? Yes, carried. It's very wheelchair-unfriendly over in Korea. No slopes. We carried the luggage down the flightSSS of stairs and up! In the cold, wintry night... After hibernating in the cold for 1.5h.
fungi and lizzie!!! I can tell you guys where this stall is located in Myeong Dong!!! Super shiok! The kimchi is oh my goodnessly nice ok??? W11,000 for the cheapest Ginseng (White) Chicken.

Kimchi and Ginseng Chicken. My loves. Just what we needed to warm overselves up.
I drank the soju meant to be poured into the chicken soup! Very shiok! Drank half a cup only la.. was too lie4 for me. i know my limits and i don't cross them! Yea! Don't get drunk!
Black Chicken = fusion of Peijune + Wilson.

mei's so happy to see a car covered in snow!

the view from my hotel room...
the roofs were covered with snow! remember this image! will refer you guys back here again!

that's all for now peeps! will blog again soon... once i get my blogshops done! haha. bye!
